How To Stop Drinking: Imagine Waking Tomorrow No Hangover & No Guilt

Perhaps you are thinking of going sober and giving up alcohol, but you have heard that its difficult to do. Plus you have been told that alcohol withdrawal is painful and deeply unpleasant to go through?

Nonsense giving up alcohol is easy, don’t believe all the hype around painful quitting. As with any drug, alcohol has a withdrawal period – a time that I refer to in my stop drinking books as ‘the kick’. This is the time it takes for the chemical to stop having an affect on the body and mind.

In the case of alcohol the withdrawal period is around 14 days, so what does it feel like?

In truth it feels like a mild sensation of uneasiness. You could describe it as experiencing anxiety or stress. This is perhaps why so many people incorrectly believe that alcohol reduces stress.

Of course it does nothing of the sorts, alcohol only relives the stress it created in the first place, by way of a symptom of alcohol withdrawal. So if you hadn’t drunk alcohol at all the sensation of anxiety would not even be there at all.

The reason heroin is so difficult to get off is because the kick is so profoundly painful. You must go through days of torture and agony, knowing that you can stop the pain at any point just by taking some heroin. It takes great willpower and determination to get off heroin because of this.

The good news is the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal are about 100x less that heroin and providing you can deal with 14 days of ‘slight uneasiness’ you will be fine.
