At the end of this activity, participants should be able to review appropriate indications for parenteral nutrition; discuss safety considerations when initiating parenteral nutrition; describe a pharmacist’s role in initiating parenteral nutrition; discuss the new immunosuppressive agents utilized in solid organ transplantation; define the role of everolimus in liver transplantation based on new clinical evidence; describe the adverse effects and monitoring parameters of belatacept; and recognize the differences between Astragraf SX™ and tacrolimus in regard to pharmacokinetic parameters and dosing. Participants should also be able to identify neurotransmitters involved in alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS); discuss symptom-triggered treatment of AWS; and list key medications in the management of AWS.
